Director of Product Management

We have an excellent opportunity for a Director of Product Management to join our team.

Purpose:

Under the direction of the VP, Customer Support the Director of Product Management is responsible for the management of Alliance product lines. This involves establishing both long and short-term objectives, the development of product marketing plans, managing the product lifecycle, accountability for product performance (profitability), gather prioritize product and customer requirements and from that define the product visions, be an expert with regards to the competition, work closely with Engineering, Sales, Marketing to ensure revenue and customer satisfaction goals are met, and act as a leader at ALS.

Position Responsibilities:

Primary duties:

  • Establishes both long and short-term objectives and strategies for assigned product lines to create product visions. Develops new products within assigned product lines. Conducts research to determine viability, both from a product standpoint (most likely done with Sales group). Establish goals and expectations for the new products.
  • Be accountable for business results of product lines (volume, revenue, margin) to ensure overall sales and profitability objectives are being met.
  • Actively manages product planning and execution through the product life cycle.
  • Be an expert with regard to competition. Conduct competitive benchmarking for assigned product lines by reviewing competitive information via competitor pieces and trade publications, market research and feedback, etc.
  • Monitor acitivities of external influences (legislation, consumer groups, vendor innovations, technological advances, etc.) which affect product design and/or use.
  • Manages team of product managers in support and achievement of departmental goals and objectives.
  • Develop and manage metrics and business reviews for department.
  • Tight coordination with Engineering, Operations, and Sales.

Position Requirements

  1. Knowledge/Experience:
    • Minimum four years multi-brand product management experience required, preferably in the laundry or similarly structured market.
    • Minimum two years in management or director roles.
    • Three to five years of international or global company exposure preferred.
    • Must have experience with companies with multi-brand approaches.
  2. Skills and Abilities:
    • Possess strong poject management ability; effectively communicates vision for product line and strategy to the product team.
    • Ability to interact with top management effectively; identifies priorities of upper managment and when it is appropiate to inform; takes into account what executive concerns might be and addresses them proactively.
    • Strong communicaton skills; influences others by persuasion rather then authrotiy-makes case; effectively captures product requirements for product team in specification documents.
    • Strong time management ability; effectively prioritizes and plans time (distinguishes between what is important and what is urgent.
    • Demonstrates strategic/forward thinking ability; looks outside of industry for advances in technology and functionality; communicates roadmaps to product team - where product is going for future; analyzes the existence and influence of internal and external forces on the success of the business.
  3. Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business Management or related field required.
    • MBA preferred
  4. Physical Requirements:
    • Position involves sitting long periods, standing, manual dexterity, stooping, bending and minimal lifting.
